Sopore July 31(KNO): Scores of people in Sangrama area of Sopore town in north Kashmir's Baramulla district staged a protest against the alleged failure of Jal Shakti department in providing drinking water to residents. Witnesses told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the residents of Sangrama blocked the Srinagar-Kupwara highway and staged a demonstration against the department for failing to provide drinking water to the area for the past one month. The protestors raised slogans against the department and blocked the road, thereby hampering traffic movement for hours together. They said even though they have brought the matter to the notice of concerned authorities, nothing has been done to restore water supply to the area. Later, a police team reached the spot and pacified the protestors and assured them that their genuine concerns will be brought into the notice of concerned authorities. Meanwhile, concerned executive engineer Jal Shakti department Ghulam Rasool told KNO that the department is working to provide water supply through Shrakwara line to the area. He said that currently water tanker supply has also been provided to the area so that they will not face inconvenience and assured that the issue would be redressed soon—(KNO)
